KIND network update
Week beginning Mon 2nd December 2024
Dear colleagues,
Welcome to our regular KIND network update. We’re coming to the end of the run of training sessions aimed at beginners that has been taking place over the past month or so. Those training sessions will be repeated in the future, but we’ll be concentrating on the more ambitious end of our training offer during November and December this year.
Hope to see you at something soon
Brendan
Wins of The Week
In the spirit of #IAmRemarkable, we do a weekly wins of the week thread to celebrate the professional (and personal) achievements of the community. A random selection from last week:
- I passed my master’s degree with distinction.
- Wrote a snazzy report in Rmarkdown this week. Who knows if it will end up getting used, but I learnt a lot in making it!
- I supported a colleague who was going through some difficulties and gave them space to process their feelings
- I’ve managed to handle my first short-deadline piece of work for an external customer. Confidence is rising!

Events

The theme this week is show and tell. Come and show the community your projects. - 1-2pm, Tue 3rd December 2024. The Scottish Community of Data Analysts is a community of practice for those working with data in territorial NHS Boards. Next week, the presenter will be Nora Villamil Buenrostro - Predictors of DNAs for OP Paediatrics.
Book of the week
Mervyn King. 2016. The End of Alchemy: Money, Banking and the Future of the Global Economy.
ISBN 978-1408706114, Worldcat.
Colin Smith, an information analyst at NHS GGC writes to recommend this book: ‘A very interesting book from 2016. Not medical but given we’ve another potential round of ’austerity’ on the way, still relevant as to how we run the economy and fund the NHS and public services.’.
